I Remember
by Khadijar Dameron
September 11, 2001! That day twenty-two years ago still resonates in my mind. I was a homeschool mom at the time. That morning I was working with my three daughters on their schoolwork when my son came up from the basement to say, " A plane just crashed into one of the twin towers."
I immediately stopped what I was doing to check the news. Initially, I was confused because at the point I came in on they were looping the moment of impact, over and over. I wasn't making sense of what the reporter was saying because I was in shock about what I was witnessing. I thought, "How horrible, all those people perished from this accident." Then it began to make sense as the report of the assault on the second tower came in. This wasn't an accident; it was an intentional act of terrorism. It only got worse from there,
More bad news. The attack on the Pentagon and the diverted attempt on the White House or the US Capitol building by the brave passengers on UA Flight 93. My heart still aches from the tragic events that unfolded that day...because...
I REMEMBER!!
I also REMEMBER the Sunday following that horrific day. We prayed and cried out to our God in hopes of understanding what had happened. We were looking for answers! Looking for Peace in the midst of this emotional storm! Collectively, we as a people REMEMBERED that it was in God who we needed to put our trust in at such a time like that. God was our place of refuge when we were feeling so vulnerable and unprotected. But then, as time passed, it seems collectively people have forgotten!
We, as a people, aren't any different from God's Chosen people, the Israelites. They knew everything they needed to know about the God of promise and hope. Yet, time and time again they would walk in obedience and serve the Lord well... then rebel, disobey and fail ....repeat...repeat...repeat.. Depending on their earthly King (governing leader) of that time, that would dictate how the people REMEMBERED their God! Every act of disobedience cost them dearly. Every act of obedience found them living in times of peace and prosperity.
I pray for our nation, often!! How many September 11ths ...or global pandemics will it take for us to REMEMBER the goodness of the Lord? What will it take to REMEMBER that this country was founded on the truth of God's word? What will it take to REMEMBER that God, and God alone, is the essence of truth? He cannot be redefined to fit into our ideology of what we want truth to be.
I REMEMBER 9/11! I REMEMBER God was then and continues to be my All-Sufficient One! No matter what the situation or circumstance, I can run to Him for the help I need.
"God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble." Psalm 46:1
"I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your wonders of old." Psalm 77:11
"Remember His marvelous works which He has done, His wonders, and the judgements of His mouth." 1 Chronicles 16:12
REMEMBER!!!!!!
